Roles & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver safe, individualized nursing care for long-term care residents
- Perform thorough nursing assessments and document findings accurately in the EHR
- Develop, implement, and evaluate care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
- Administer medications and therapeutics accurately and monitor resident responses
- Provide patient and family education to support understanding and coping with illness
- Lead and supervise nursing assistants/LPNs/Ward Clerk during your shift, ensuring quality care
- Respond calmly and make sound clinical decisions in emergent situations
- Participate in staff education, in-services, and quality improvement activities
Qualifications
- Current, full, unrestricted RN license in Alaska or another U.S. state required (Direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start date; agency staff must have active Alaska license)
- Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing (BSN, ADN, or Diploma)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Clinical Competency Assessment required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
- High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
- Minimum 1-2 years of nursing experience preferred
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs and perform required physical duties
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) or Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Nursing Diploma
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong nursing assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation skills
- Medication administration and familiarity with pharmaceuticals and side effects
- Proficiency with Electronic Health Record (EHR) documentation and charting
- Infection control practices and AED operation competency
- Experience delegating and supervising CNAs/LPNs and coordinating unit workflow
- Excellent oral and written communication and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Patient and family education, discharge planning, and psychosocial support skills
