Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex laboratory testing across hematology, chemistry, microbiology, blood bank, urinalysis, coagulation, and serology
• Analyze, verify, and report accurate test results promptly, including critical values to support patient care
• Perform phlebotomy and specimen processing as needed to maintain efficient workflow
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and document laboratory instrumentation and troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime
• Perform and document quality control procedures and maintain compliance with regulatory and safety standards
• Utilize the Laboratory Information System (Cerner LIS/EHR) for accurate documentation and reporting
• Work independently during night shifts while collaborating with clinical staff to ensure patient-centered care
• Float between disciplines as required and contribute to a flexible, team-focused lab environment

Qualifications

• ASCP (MLS/MT) or AMT certification required
• AHA BLS certification required
• Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field with completed clinical training
• Minimum 2+ years of recent hospital laboratory experience (strong generalist background)
• Cerner EHR and LIS experience required
• Comfortable working independently on night shift in a rural Critical Access Hospital
• Phlebotomy experience and ability to float across disciplines
• Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and instrument troubleshooting skills

Education

• Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field with completed clinical training

Knowledge & Skills

• Broad generalist knowledge across hematology, chemistry, microbiology, blood bank, urinalysis, coagulation, and serology
• Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Cerner EHR
• Quality control procedures, documentation, and regulatory compliance
• Instrument maintenance and troubleshooting skills
• Strong specimen processing and phlebotomy techniques
• Ability to prioritize, work independently, and communicate critical results clearly
