PACU Nurse
Location: Hilo, Hawaii
Start Date: 07-20-2026
Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Variable shifts between 8, 10 and 12 hours including Days, Evenings, Nights and Weekends/Holidays with no guaranteed hours or shift preference. On-call shifts required 0-3 times per month (8-hour nights and 24-hour weekends/holidays)
Candidate Pay Rate: $58 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate pre-op, Phase I and Phase II recovery care to surgical patients
- Monitor vital signs, incision sites and overall stability using critical care expertise
- Collaborate with anesthesia and surgical teams to ensure smooth patient transitions
- Respond quickly to any post-anesthesia complications with advanced clinical judgment
- Educate patients and families on recovery expectations and next steps
Qualifications
- Active Hawaii nursing license by start date (must apply upon acceptance if not currently held)
- 2+ years of critical care RN experience in ER or ICU settings accepted in place of PACU experience
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association
- PALS certification recommended and may be required
- Strong critical-thinking skills and a passion for post-anesthesia care
Knowledge & Skills
- Advanced knowledge of anesthesiology and Phase I recovery protocols
- Proficiency with Meditech, PCA pumps, Pyxis, Braun IV pumps and Phillips monitors
- Experience with SCDs, Cryocuff and Bair PAWS warmers
- Ability to assess patients quickly and respond to changes in condition
- Comfort working variable shifts and occasional on-call coverage
