Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate psychiatric care and observe resident behavior to help keep the unit safe and therapeutic
• Perform routine clinical tasks and assist with medication administration under scope of practice
• Conduct timely and accurate documentation in the patient record to support quality care
• Lead de-escalation and crisis intervention when residents are distressed, prioritizing safety for all
• Collaborate with nurses, mental health clinicians, and custody staff to coordinate care plans
• Report incidents, changes in condition, and plan adjustments clearly and promptly
• Support group activities and therapeutic programming to promote resident engagement and recovery

Qualifications

• Active Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license in California
• Current BLS or CPR certification or willingness to obtain prior to start
• Experience in psychiatric, behavioral health, or correctional healthcare settings is a strong plus
• Ability to pass required background checks, credentialing, and facility orientation
• Dependable, team-oriented, and comfortable working daytime shifts Monday through Friday

Education

• Vocational Nursing diploma (LVN) or Psychiatric Technician certificate / program completion
• High school diploma or GED required

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in psychiatric observation, mental status assessment, and documentation
• Medication administration knowledge appropriate to LPT/LVN scope
• Strong de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques
• Clear verbal and written communication for interdisciplinary collaboration
• Familiarity with infection control, safety protocols, and correctional facility procedures
• Basic electronic medical record navigation and accurate charting
