Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive echocardiography studies (Transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, Color-flow Doppler, Transesophageal) accurately and efficiently to provide high-quality diagnostic information.
• Conduct exercise and pharmacologic stress echocardiography and ensure clear, actionable results for cardiology physicians.
• Perform other cardiac diagnostic testing as assigned — EKGs, Holter monitor preparation/monitoring/analysis, and cardiac stress tests.
• Operate and troubleshoot cardiac diagnostic equipment (echocardiographs, cardiac stress systems, electrocardiographs, Holter monitors) to maximize image and data quality.
• Use hospital information systems for scheduling, processing, and correct charging of all studies to support clinical and billing accuracy.
• Apply infection control and aseptic techniques rigorously, including equipment disinfection and safe patient handling.
• Provide age-specific patient care across the lifespan — including neonatal and pediatric populations — with sensitivity and clinical competence.
• Serve as a clinical resource: collaborate with physicians, nursing staff and other hospital teams to support patient care decisions.
• Precept and mentor students from contracted colleges and universities, delivering clinical instruction and professional guidance.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS or equivalent) required.
• Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program and/or a minimum of two years hands-on echocardiography experience.
• Preferred: Certificate in Cardiovascular Sonography or related certificate program.
• Preferred: Extensive hospital-based echocardiography experience, especially with pediatric and neonatal patients.
• Strong patient communication skills and ability to work with interdisciplinary teams.
• Willingness to work evening and variable shifts as needed.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in transthoracic (TTE) and transesophageal (TEE) echocardiography techniques and modalities (M-Mode, Color-flow Doppler).
• Experience with stress echocardiography including pharmacologic protocols.
• Competence in EKG acquisition, Holter monitoring prep/analysis, and cardiac stress testing.
• Familiarity with hospital information systems for scheduling, documentation, and charge capture.
• Ability to operate and troubleshoot diagnostic equipment and ensure proper disinfection and infection control.
• Comfort working with neonatal, pediatric, and adult patient populations; age-specific care knowledge.
• Precepting and clinical instruction experience for students and new staff.
