Roles & Responsibilities

Audit medical records for accurate CPT and ICD-10 coding and ensure clinical documentation supports code selection
Compile audit reports and analyze findings to drive coding accuracy and process improvements
Maintain audit logs and ensure annual audits of established provider records are completed
Communicate findings with providers—clarify observations, validate documentation, and recommend improvements
Design and implement documentation-support tools in collaboration with the Revenue Cycle Manager
Develop and deliver formal and informal education sessions for providers, coders, and charge entry staff
Train new revenue cycle team members on coding and documentation guidelines
Provide hands-on coding support as needed and assist with evaluation of coding activities and staff performance

Qualifications

Certified Professional Coder (CPC) — required (posting: "Must have CPC")
Associate degree in a related field — required
Minimum five (5) years of inpatient and outpatient coding and auditing experience
Professional physician/provider coding experience in an office-based setting — required
Experience with multi-specialty coding and working directly with physicians for education — preferred
Strong auditing experience and ability to meet productivity targets

Education

Associate Degree — related field (required)
Bachelor Degree — related field (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

Expertise with ICD-10 and CPT coding
Inpatient and outpatient professional/physician coding knowledge
Medical record auditing and clinical documentation review
Ability to compile audit reports and analyze audit findings
Provider education and clear communication skills
Familiarity with coding and billing support processes and revenue cycle workflows
Comfort training staff and supporting charge entry personnel
