Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality respiratory care and treatments for residents in a skilled nursing environment
- Perform ventilator management, oxygen therapy, and aerosolized treatments as needed
- Assess respiratory status, interpret clinical data, and act quickly to escalate concerns
- Document assessments, interventions, and progress in the medical record accurately and timely
- Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and physicians to develop and implement patient-centered care plans
- Educate residents and families about respiratory conditions, therapies, and home care options
- Participate in quality improvement, infection control, and respiratory care protocols
Qualifications
- Active Respiratory Therapist credential (CRT or RRT) as required by facility
- Current state Respiratory Therapy license or eligibility for licensure in Pennsylvania
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; ACLS or PALS a plus if available
- Comfortable working in a skilled nursing/long-term care setting; experience in respiratory care preferred
- Strong clinical judgment, excellent communication, and a teamwork mindset
Education
- Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program or equivalent
- Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field preferred but not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Ventilator and noninvasive ventilation knowledge
- Arterial blood gas interpretation and respiratory assessment skills
- Hands-on experience with oxygen delivery systems, nebulizers, and airway clearance techniques
- Familiarity with infection prevention and control practices in a long-term care setting
- Proficient documentation skills and comfort using electronic medical records
- Ability to communicate clearly with residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams
