Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare the operating room and surgical instruments for orthopedic cases with attention to sterile technique
- Anticipate surgeon needs and assist the surgical team throughout procedures to support efficient, safe care
- Maintain and monitor the sterile field, ensuring all counts and protocols are followed
- Manage instrument sets, perform instrument checks, and ensure proper sterilization and handling
- Participate in the call rotation and respond promptly (return within 45 minutes when called)
- Collaborate with nurses, surgeons, and perioperative staff to promote excellent patient outcomes and a positive OR environment
Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) — required
- Demonstrated orthopedic OR experience — required
- Ability to work full-time (36 hours/week) within day-shift hours and participate in call rotation
- Strong teamwork and communication skills in a fast-paced surgical setting
- Reliable ability to return to the facility within 45 minutes when on call
Knowledge & Skills
- Orthopedic surgical procedures and instrumentation
- Operating Room (OR) workflow and sterile technique
- Surgical instrument handling, setup, and counts
- Effective intraoperative communication and team coordination
- Ability to manage priorities under time-sensitive conditions
