Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM; also 8-hour shifts 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM, 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM, 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM; self-scheduling with every other weekend and holiday

Hours per Week: 36

Candidate Pay Rate: $58 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, hands-on care to adolescents and adults in a locked inpatient psychiatric unit
• Build meaningful connections while supporting patients through depression, anxiety, substance use, and other behavioral health challenges
• Use strong de-escalation and communication skills to create a safe, healing environment
• Collaborate with mental health techs, occupational therapists, and social workers to deliver well-rounded care
• Perform 15-minute safety rounds and actively engage with patients rather than remaining at the nurses station
• Float throughout the hospital as needed to support 1:1 observation or additional staffing needs

Qualifications

• Active RN license in North Dakota or compact license
• BLS certification required
• CPI certification preferred
• Acute or inpatient psychiatric experience strongly preferred
• First-time travelers welcome
• Adolescent experience a plus
• Patience, calm demeanor, and ability to stay composed in challenging situations

Knowledge & Skills

• De-escalation techniques and therapeutic communication
• Experience with adolescent and adult behavioral health populations
• Understanding of common diagnoses including depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, and substance use disorders
• Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
• Comfort providing direct, involved patient care on a locked unit
