Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide thorough pre-operative assessments and prepare patients for surgery
• Monitor and manage patient recovery in the PACU with close attention to post-anesthesia status
• Administer medications, manage IVs, and intervene promptly for any complications
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthetists, and perioperative staff to ensure smooth patient flow
• Educate patients and families about post-op care and discharge instructions
• Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the patient's medical record
• Respond to on-call duties professionally and promptly, supporting the rural community when needed

Qualifications

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure (VT license or ability to obtain)
• Experience in PACU, pre-op, or perioperative nursing (experience in a critical access or rural setting is a plus)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; advanced certifications (ACLS, PALS) preferred when available
• Comfort with on-call responsibilities and independent decision-making
• Reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license (no public transportation in the area)

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Pre-operative assessment and patient preparation
• Post-anesthesia monitoring and recovery care
• Pain management and medication administration
• Airway assessment and basic airway management
• Strong communication and teamwork in a perioperative setting
• Familiarity with electronic health record documentation
