Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality occupational therapy evaluation and treatment across acute-care settings including Emergency Department, ICU, PCU, Medical/Surgical, Acute Rehab and Step Down ICU
• Adapt interventions to fast-paced, evolving patient needs while floating between Herrin, Memorial Hospital of Carbondale and St. Joseph facilities
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (nursing, physicians, PT, SLP, case management) to support timely discharge planning and optimal patient outcomes
• Document assessments, plans of care, progress notes and discharge recommendations accurately and promptly
• Educate patients and families on safe functional mobility, ADLs, adaptive equipment and home safety to support recovery

Qualifications

• Required: BLS (Basic Life Support)
• Required where specified: ACLS, PALS, TNCC and NIHSS (per site requirements)
• Preferred: CSU-ALS at some sites
• Experience providing Occupational Therapy in acute-care or hospital settings (Emergency Dept, ICU, PCU, Medical/Surgical, Acute Rehab, Step Down)
• Comfort floating between multiple nearby facilities and adapting to site-specific protocols

Knowledge & Skills

• Occupational Therapy in acute and inpatient environments
• Emergency Department assessments and rapid decision-making
• ICU and step-down patient management and precautions
• Rehabilitation planning for medical/surgical and acute rehab patients
• Functional mobility training, ADL retraining and discharge planning
• Familiarity with required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS (and CSU-ALS preferred)
