Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based postpartum care to new mothers and their infants
• Perform thorough mother and newborn assessments to identify and address clinical needs
• Educate families on breastfeeding, newborn care, safe sleep, and postpartum recovery
• Collaborate with obstetricians, pediatricians, lactation consultants, and the care team to coordinate seamless transitions of care
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient education accurately and timely
• Respond promptly to patient and family concerns, escalating when necessary to ensure safety
• Support discharge planning by ensuring patients and families have appropriate follow-up and resources

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Texas license or compact state) required
• Minimum 1 year of recent postpartum or mother-baby nursing experience
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) required; neonatal resuscitation or NRP preferred
• Strong clinical assessment skills and experience with newborn care and lactation support
• Excellent communication and patient education skills; family-centered care approach

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in postpartum maternal assessments and newborn evaluations
• Knowledge of breastfeeding basics and lactation support principles
• Able to recognize and respond to common postpartum complications
• Proficient in patient and family education, discharge planning, and documentation
• Team-oriented with strong clinical judgment and prioritization skills
