Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert respiratory care for critically ill adults and children in the ICU, including ventilator management and airway support
• Assess, monitor and document patient respiratory status accurately in Epic
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and execute individualized treatment plans
• Respond to emergency situations with calm, efficient airway and ventilatory interventions
• Educate patients, families and staff on respiratory care and equipment use
• Support unit needs by floating between like units as required to maintain patient care coverage
• Participate in unit quality improvement initiatives and follow infection control policies

Qualifications

• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required
• Active Respiratory Care license in North Carolina (pending licenses are not accepted)
• Minimum of 2 years of recent clinical respiratory therapy experience, ICU experience preferred
• Comfortable caring for both pediatric and adult ICU patients
• Current BLS and ACLS required; PALS preferred
• Experience charting in Epic preferred
• Able to work nights, weekends and float between like units as needed
• Flu vaccination required unless qualifying for medical or religious exemption; COVID-19 vaccination not required per facility guideline

Education

• Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred
• RRT credential required

Knowledge & Skills

• Advanced ventilator management and airway care
• Pediatric and adult critical care respiratory skills
• ABG interpretation, oxygen therapy and pulmonary treatments
• Proficient documentation in Epic or similar EHR systems
• Strong communication and teamwork in high-acuity settings
• Ability to prioritize and respond quickly in emergencies
• Familiarity with ICU equipment and safety protocols
