Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional, patient-centered nursing care to laboring mothers and newborns in the L&D setting
• Perform comprehensive assessments and monitor maternal and fetal status using EPIC and monitoring technology
• Initiate timely interventions and escalate care for emergent maternal or fetal concerns
• Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatology, and multidisciplinary teams to optimize outcomes
• Document care thoroughly and accurately in EPIC and complete required CNE competency exams and checklists
• Maintain certification and participate in ongoing skills validation, including EKG and specialty competency testing
• Support families with education, comfort measures, and compassionate communication through labor and delivery

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program (required)
• Minimum 2 years of job-related nursing experience (per job requirements)
• Active Rhode Island RN license (must be valid and maintained)
• Current BLS required; NRP and ACLS required for Labor & Delivery
• Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification preferred
• EPIC experience required/mandatory
• Successful completion of required CNE skills checklist and competency exams

Education

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program (Associate Degree in Nursing or BSN acceptable per job requirements)

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in labor and delivery nursing and patient-centered maternal care
• Proficient with EPIC for documentation and order workflows
• Competent in fetal monitoring and interpreting EFM strips (EFM certification preferred)
• Basic EKG interpretation skills and cardiac monitoring awareness
• Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and the ability to act quickly in emergent situations
• Clear communication and teamwork within multidisciplinary care teams
• Familiarity with hospital policies, infection control, and required health screenings/vaccinations
