Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide safe, compassionate acute psychiatric nursing for geriatric patients (age 60+) in a 10-bed short-term unit
- Assess, monitor, and document patient mental status and physical condition throughout your shift
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans
- De-escalate situations using CPI techniques and maintain a calm, therapeutic environment
- Administer medications, treatments, and PRN interventions following facility policies
- Communicate clearly with patients, families, and care team members to promote positive outcomes
- Participate in admission, discharge, and transfer processes for short-term psychiatric patients
- Complete required facility-specific skills checklist and maintain accurate license verification
Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in good standing
- Minimum 2 years of acute care RN experience with some psychiatric background (explicit requirement)
- Current BLS certification (required)
- CPI certification or demonstrated training in crisis prevention/de-escalation (required)
- Comfort and experience caring for geriatric patients (age 60+), ideally in psychiatric/acute settings
- Ability to submit resume, BLS, license verification, and facility-specific skills checklist at time of submission
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills in acute and psychiatric nursing
- Behavioral de-escalation and crisis intervention (CPI) expertise
- Medication administration and documentation accuracy
- Experience in geriatric care considerations, including comorbidities and polypharmacy
- Teamwork and clear communication across interdisciplinary teams
- Ability to maintain composure and provide safe care in a short-term acute psych setting
