Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate acute psychiatric nursing for geriatric patients (age 60+) in a 10-bed short-term unit
• Assess, monitor, and document patient mental status and physical condition throughout your shift
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans
• De-escalate situations using CPI techniques and maintain a calm, therapeutic environment
• Administer medications, treatments, and PRN interventions following facility policies
• Communicate clearly with patients, families, and care team members to promote positive outcomes
• Participate in admission, discharge, and transfer processes for short-term psychiatric patients
• Complete required facility-specific skills checklist and maintain accurate license verification

Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in good standing
• Minimum 2 years of acute care RN experience with some psychiatric background (explicit requirement)
• Current BLS certification (required)
• CPI certification or demonstrated training in crisis prevention/de-escalation (required)
• Comfort and experience caring for geriatric patients (age 60+), ideally in psychiatric/acute settings
• Ability to submit resume, BLS, license verification, and facility-specific skills checklist at time of submission

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills in acute and psychiatric nursing
• Behavioral de-escalation and crisis intervention (CPI) expertise
• Medication administration and documentation accuracy
• Experience in geriatric care considerations, including comorbidities and polypharmacy
• Teamwork and clear communication across interdisciplinary teams
• Ability to maintain composure and provide safe care in a short-term acute psych setting
