Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill patients in the Medical ICU
- Continuously assess and monitor patient condition, responding promptly to changes
- Collaborate closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, and the interdisciplinary team to deliver coordinated care
- Administer medications, manage infusions and advanced therapies safely and accurately
- Assist with ventilator management and complex patient support as required by unit protocols
- Perform thorough and timely documentation and participate in structured shift handoffs
- Support patients and families with clear communication, education, and emotional support
- Maintain and demonstrate competency through required Prime exams and skills checklists
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) credential (ability to obtain Kansas RN license prior to start is required)
- Experience working in a Medical ICU (ICU-specific experience preferred)
- Required certifications and credentials as listed: DCI/BVP and completion of Prime Core Competencies Exam, Prime Skills Checklist, and Prime Specialty Exam
- Ability to meet health and screening requirements: COVID-19 vaccine, MMR, TB testing, Hepatitis B, Influenza vaccine, Varicella, Tdap, Fit Test, and a minimum 10-panel drug screen
- Capacity to complete a physical/health statement prior to start
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong critical care assessment and monitoring skills
- Comfort with ventilator basics and hemodynamic monitoring
- Proficiency with IV medication administration and infusion management
- Accurate, timely electronic charting and documentation
- Effective communication and teamwork in a fast-paced ICU environment
- Infection control practices and adherence to unit protocols
- Preparedness to complete Prime testing and competency checklists
