Roles & Responsibilities

• Scrub for cardiovascular OR procedures across neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations — keep the sterile field pristine and the team moving
• Prepare and organize instruments, devices, and supplies specific to CVOR cases so surgeons have exactly what they need when they need it
• Assist with instrumentation, passing, and surgical procedures in high-acuity cardiovascular cases with focus and precision
• Function independently within established protocols and take ownership of unit tasks assigned by the RN
• Maintain accurate procedural documentation and support safe patient handoffs
• Participate in on-call coverage and respond promptly when urgent CVOR cases arise

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program (required for hires post-2009)
• Minimum 1 year experience as a Surgical Technologist
• Cardiovascular OR (CVOR) specialty experience required
• BCLS certification required
• National certification preferred: NBSTSA (CST) or NCCT (TS-C); having certification can increase pay
• Ability to work on-call as required

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program (required for hires post-2009)

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient computer and keyboarding skills for documentation and electronic charting
• Sound judgment, tact, diplomacy, and strict adherence to patient confidentiality
• Ability to function independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced CVOR environment
• Strong knowledge of sterile technique and perioperative protocols
