Roles & Responsibilities

• Manage bone marrow transplant patients and coordinate transplant-related care
• Oversee blood bank interactions and ensure safe transfusion practices
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests and imaging to guide timely treatment
• Prescribe and manage medications in accordance with oncology protocols
• Provide thorough inpatient rounding on weekends and coordinate care transitions
• Deliver high-quality outpatient oncology visits (average ~15 patients/day)
• Respond to patient and hospital phone calls during assigned call periods
• Coordinate chemotherapy administration with nursing oncology teams and ensure patient safety

Qualifications

• Active Physician Assistant certification (PA-C) and eligibility/licensure to practice in South Carolina
• Current DEA registration or ability to obtain prior to start
• EPIC experience (documentation system/EMR) — experience required
• Clinical experience in medical oncology and hematology; familiarity with bone marrow transplant management
• Comfort with inpatient and outpatient oncology workflows and on-call responsibilities
• Current BLS; ACLS and oncology-specific certifications preferred
• Locum/contract experience and ability to credential within estimated timeframe

Education

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
• National certification (PA-C) and state licensure required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of medical oncology and hematology care
• Experience with inpatient rounding and outpatient clinic workflows
• Proficiency using EPIC for documentation and orders
• Ability to manage blood bank interactions and transfusion decisions
• Clinical judgment to order appropriate tests and imaging
• Skilled prescriber with careful medication management in oncology settings
• Effective communicator with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams
• Comfort handling phone triage and urgent issues during call shifts
