Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain a sterile field for surgical procedures to ensure patient safety
• Assemble, pass, and manage surgical instruments and supplies for the team
• Anticipate surgeon needs by understanding the procedure being performed
• Clean, prepare, and package instruments for disinfection and sterilization between cases
• Assist with room turnover to keep the OR running efficiently and on schedule
• Support the RN and surgical team with limited direct patient care as assigned
• Adhere to AORN Recommended Practices and departmental policies at all times
• Respond promptly to rotating call assignments within the 30-minute response window

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to follow AORN recommended practices and departmental procedures
• Comfortable working under RN supervision and collaborating with surgical teams
• Proven experience handling surgical instrumentation and maintaining sterile technique
• Ability to perform instrument cleaning, preparation, and sterilization processes
• Reliable time management and responsiveness for rotating on-call duties
• Maintain required clinical competencies per scope and training for the role

Knowledge & Skills

• Sterile technique and maintenance of a sterile field
• Surgical instrumentation setup, handling, and turnover
• Instrument cleaning, preparation, and sterilization processes
• Operating room support and assisting the surgical team
• Familiarity with AORN recommended practices
• Supply handling, inventory awareness, and efficient room turnover
• Strong teamwork, communication, and time management skills
• Ability to anticipate surgeon needs and adapt during procedures
