Roles & Responsibilities

Screen, diagnose, and treat patients with disorders of speech, language, cognition, and swallowing in an acute care setting
Provide professional consults to the interdisciplinary care team to support safe, timely discharges
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans focused on functional recovery and patient-centered goals
Perform and interpret instrumental assessments (including FEES) and collaborate on swallowing management strategies
Operate and maintain clinical equipment such as electrolarynx, VitalStim, endoscope, and augmentative communication devices
Document evaluations, progress, and discharge planning clearly and promptly to support continuity of care

Qualifications

Current Hawaii State license as a Speech-Language Pathologist (required)
ASHA certification (CCC-SLP) (required)
Current certification in CPR at BLS/HCP level (required)
Completion of a FEES course prior to hire or within six months of start (required)
Minimum of one (1) year of acute care SLP experience preferred
Prior FEES clinical experience and MBS ImP experience preferred

Knowledge & Skills

Acute care clinical experience and familiarity with inpatient rehabilitation workflows
Swallowing/dysphagia assessment and treatment including FEES
Adult communication and cognitive evaluation and intervention
Experience with instrumental assessments such as MBS ImP
Skill with augmentative and alternative communication and use of electrolarynx
Comfortable collaborating within an interdisciplinary team and communicating with physicians, nurses, and case managers
