Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality respiratory care for critically ill and acute patients, including ventilator management and weaning
• Perform and interpret arterial blood gases to guide clinical decisions
• Manage noninvasive ventilation such as BIPAP and CPAP and administer nebulized therapies
• Operate and troubleshoot ventilators and respiratory equipment safely and effectively
• Deliver oxygen therapy and monitor patient response, adjusting treatments as needed
• Document treatments and patient status accurately in Meditech and communicate clearly with the interdisciplinary team
• Respond quickly and competently to respiratory emergencies and code situations
• Participate in patient rounds, education, and discharge planning to support continuity of care

Qualifications

• Current RRT credential required
• Active Virginia state respiratory license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of respiratory therapy experience, ICU experience strongly preferred
• Comfortable with Meditech or similar EMR documentation
• Ability to work in a fast-paced acute care environment and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of mechanical ventilation and modes
• Skilled in BIPAP/CPAP management and noninvasive ventilation strategies
• Proficient with arterial blood gas sampling and interpretation
• Experience with nebulizers, oxygen therapy, and airway management
• Familiarity with Meditech EMR for documentation and orders
• Excellent patient assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills
