Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare, sterilize and set up surgical instruments and sterile trays for cases
• Assist the surgical team during procedures by anticipating and passing instruments
• Maintain and monitor the sterile field, ensuring aseptic technique at all times
• Perform sponge, needle and instrument counts and report discrepancies
• Turn over and restock the operating room between cases efficiently
• Communicate clearly with nurses and surgeons to support safe, timely care
• Document case details and instrument usage as required by facility policy

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program or equivalent experience
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; advanced certifications a plus
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred but not always required
• Previous operating room or perioperative experience preferred
• Ability to work variable per diem shifts, including weekends and nights as needed
• Strong attention to detail, teamwork skills, and adherence to sterile technique

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited surgical technologist program preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation and OR protocols
• Ability to identify and handle surgical instruments quickly and accurately
• Familiarity with infection control practices and perioperative safety standards
• Good communication skills and the ability to work calmly under pressure
• Organizational skills to manage case setup, turnover and supply levels
