Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care for adult and geriatric patients on a PCU/stepdown unit
• Monitor and manage telemetry and dysrhythmias, intervening promptly for changes in condition
• Perform and manage advanced line care including arterial lines, central and peripheral lines, PICCs, and blood product administration
• Administer and titrate IV medications and insulin drips per protocols and manage PCA when indicated
• Perform wound care including burn dressings, flap checks, and specialized procedures such as leech therapy
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (PT, RT, pharmacy, social work, radiology) to coordinate safe, timely care
• Respond as a member of rapid response/code teams and support emergency interventions
• Maintain accurate EPIC documentation and safely use Pyxis for medication management

Qualifications

• BLS required
• ACLS required
• Minimum 2+ years of recent PCU/stepdown experience
• Experience with burns, plastic/reconstructive surgery, or similar patient populations preferred
• Prior charge nurse experience preferred
• Teaching-hospital experience preferred
• Comfortable floating within the OSU system as needed
• Proficiency with EPIC documentation and Pyxis medication system preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias
• Management of arterial lines, central lines, peripheral lines, and PICC lines
• Phlebotomy and starting/maintaining IVs
• Experience with feeding tube care and gastrointestinal postoperative management
• Wound care including wound VACs, burn dressings, flap checks, and surgical drains
• IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips
• Oxygen delivery and non-invasive airway management
• Use of Rapid Response/Code teams and emergency response skills
• Familiarity with isolation precautions and PPE best practices
• EPIC charting and Pyxis medication workflows
