Roles & Responsibilities

• Assist physical therapists in delivering individualized treatment plans that help patients regain mobility and independence
• Implement therapeutic exercises, gait training, and functional activities under PT direction
• Monitor and document patient progress accurately in the medical record and communicate changes to the team
• Educate patients and families on home exercise programs, safety strategies, and adaptive techniques
• Set up and maintain therapy equipment and ensure a safe, clean treatment environment
• Collaborate with nurses, case managers, and physicians to support coordinated, patient-centered care
• Contribute to discharge planning and recommend durable medical equipment when appropriate

Qualifications

• Valid California Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) license (required)
• Graduation from an accredited PTA program
• Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
• Strong clinical judgment, documentation skills, and ability to follow PT-developed care plans
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to patient care
• Ability to work with diverse patient populations across the continuum of care

Education

• Associate Degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program (or equivalent)

Knowledge & Skills

• Therapeutic exercise prescription and progression
• Gait training, transfers, and mobility assistance techniques
• Familiarity with common rehab modalities and assistive devices
• Competence with electronic medical record documentation
• Patient education and family coaching skills
• Time management, prioritization, and teamwork in a fast-paced clinical setting
