Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality progressive care to hemodynamically stable or predictably unstable medical-surgical patients from admission through discharge
• Assess patients continuously and intervene early for changing clinical conditions, including sepsis, respiratory compromise, cardiac events, and post-procedure care
• Operate and manage advanced medical equipment such as ventilatory support devices, invasive lines, arterial lines, chest tubes, and multiple IV pumps
• Perform telemetry monitoring and EKG interpretation to support timely clinical decision-making
• Collaborate closely with physicians, charge nurses, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient-centered care and achieve positive outcomes
• Lead clinically on the unit by precepting staff, mentoring colleagues, and providing direction to RN, LPN, CNA, and support staff
• Execute discharge planning and patient education to ensure safe transitions from hospital to home or next level of care
• Document care comprehensively and follow established policies and procedures with minimal supervision

Qualifications

• Current Montana RN licensure required
• BLS and ACLS required; PALS required or to be obtained within 6 months of hire
• Practice experience in an advanced medical-surgical unit plus recent Progressive Care or Critical Care nursing experience required
• EPNC and TNCC preferred
• Experience with central line care, arterial lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, and multiple IV pumps
• Ability to precept and act as a clinical leader on the unit

• Degree from a Nursing Program

Knowledge & Skills

• Progressive Care and Medical-Surgical nursing principles
• Telemetry monitoring and EKG interpretation
• Invasive and noninvasive ventilatory support management
• Central line, arterial line, and chest tube care
• IV therapy and management of multiple IV pumps
• Basic pediatric care exposure and post-procedural care (PCI, pacemaker, thoracotomy, etc.)
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and interprofessional communication skills
