Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered progressive care to hemodynamically stable and predictably unstable medical-surgical patients
• Assess patients continuously and intervene promptly for changes in condition, using advanced assessment and critical thinking skills
• Operate and manage advanced medical equipment, including multiple IV pumps, arterial lines, chest tubes, and noninvasive/invasive ventilatory support
• Care for patients with central lines, nasogastric tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, and other specialized devices
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans from admission through discharge
• Lead clinical efforts on the unit by providing direction to RNs, LPNs, CNAs and support staff
• Precept and mentor staff and support professional development of newer nurses
• Document patient care accurately and communicate effectively with providers and charge nurse to support safe transitions of care

Qualifications

• Current Montana RN licensure
• Degree from an accredited nursing program
• Practice experience in an advanced medical-surgical unit with recent Progressive Care or Critical Care experience required
• BLS, ACLS, PALS required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire
• EPNC and TNCC certifications preferred
• Ability to function independently with minimal supervision and to lead unit-based clinical care

Education

• Degree from a Nursing Program (RN)

Knowledge & Skills

• Progressive Care and Medical-Surgical nursing principles
• Telemetry and basic cardiac EKG interpretation
• Ventilator support and management of patients requiring noninvasive and invasive ventilation
• Care of arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, and multiple IVs
• Advanced nursing procedures and pediatric experience (preferred)
• Comfort using basic office equipment and multiple IV pumps
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
