Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality neuro-rehab nursing care for a predominantly neurology population (TBI, CVA, brain tumor resection, transplant patients)
• Perform and maintain sterile technique during procedures such as Foley catheter insertions and central line dressing changes
• Deliver acute MedSurg care including IV therapy, wound care, and dysrhythmia management
• Document patient care accurately and timely in Cerner EMR
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams during rounds to coordinate 5/7 day therapy plans
• Serve as a partner in care with patients and families, communicating clearly and compassionately
• Support safe patient handling/lifts and apply restraint policies when necessary per facility standards
• Float to other MedSurg units as needed and support unit staffing/coverage

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license (able to submit license; employer willing to wait if needed)
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience (strong MedSurg background required)
• Mandatory Level 1 trauma experience — candidates without this will not be considered
• Competency in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes (SIMs Lab is pass/fail on Day 1)
• Must pass dysrhythmia exam prior to acceptance (two attempts allowed)
• Comfortable working with a high level of patient/family communication and involvement
• Travel-specific: own vehicle required for travel teams; meet hospital appearance/fit-test requirements (natural hair color, no facial piercings; men clean-shaven for fit test)

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing acceptable — BSN not required
• Completion of required unit orientation (floor-specific orientation: 2 shifts) and 12 hours of orientation per assignment

Knowledge & Skills

• Expertise in sterile technique and maintaining sterile field
• Proficiency in IV therapy and difficult IV stick escalation (IV Team/SWAT available)
• Wound care management for acute and post-surgical patients
• Dysrhythmia recognition and initial management
• Experience with Cerner EMR documentation
• Ability to work in a low-stimulation neuro-focused environment
• Strong teamwork, communication, and family-centered care skills
• Comfort with rehab-focused nursing care and interdisciplinary collaboration
