Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor adult and geriatric patients on the MedSurg unit to ensure safe, high-quality care
• Administer medications, treatments, and interventions accurately and document findings in EPIC
• Collaborate with charge nurses, nursing techs, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient care
• Use clinical judgment to prioritize assignments and escalate concerns appropriately
• Provide patient and family education to support recovery and safe discharge planning
• Support unit staffing by floating to the ED for 1:1 sitter assignments when needed
• Adhere to unit policies and professional standards, including infection control and dress/fingernail policies

Qualifications

• Active RN license valid for practice in the state of Nebraska
• BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• Minimum 1 year of recent clinical nursing experience (MedSurg experience preferred)
• Experience with 12-hour shift schedules and acute care/MedSurg patient populations
• Charting experience with EPIC (or similar electronic health record)
• Driver's license required at submittal (used to confirm radius eligibility)
• Must pass orientation open-book skills exam with a minimum score of 90% as part of onboarding
• Candidates must not be currently employed (FT/PT/PRN) with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI and Dignity) and must meet the 50-mile radius requirement

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong MedSurg clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
• Proficiency with EPIC charting workflows
• Comfort caring for adults and geriatric patients
• Ability to work well in a team environment and supervise/delegate to patient care techs
• Good time management and prioritization for 12-hour shifts
• Familiarity with hospital ratios and escalation processes
