Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care to laboring mothers and newborns
• Monitor fetal and maternal status using appropriate assessment tools and fetal monitoring
• Collaborate with obstetricians, midwives, pediatric teams, and support staff to coordinate safe deliveries
• Educate and support patients and families through labor, delivery, and postpartum care
• Respond promptly to changes in clinical status and assist in emergency interventions as needed
• Document assessments, interventions, and patient progress accurately in the electronic medical record
• Participate in unit-based quality improvement and safety initiatives to enhance patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana or ability to obtain before start
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required or obtained upon hire
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred or as required by facility
• Prior Labor & Delivery nursing experience preferred; new grads with strong OB clinical training are encouraged to apply
• Strong teamwork, communication, and critical thinking skills

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• In-depth knowledge of labor and delivery processes and protocols
• Proficiency with electronic medical records and accurate clinical documentation
• Fetal monitoring interpretation and timely escalation
• Neonatal resuscitation and newborn assessment skills
• Skilled in patient and family education during labor and postpartum
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment while maintaining compassion
