Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide patient-centered primary care to the incarcerated population with professionalism and compassion
• Perform comprehensive history and physical exams, diagnose, and develop evidence-based treatment plans
• Manage chronic conditions and acute complaints, adjusting care plans as needed
• Coordinate with nursing staff, mental health clinicians, and specialty services to ensure continuity of care
• Document encounters clearly and timely in the medical record to support quality and compliance
• Participate in clinical meetings, quality improvement activities, and protocol-driven care initiatives

Qualifications

• Active California medical license (MD or DO) or eligibility to obtain before start
• Board certification or eligibility in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine preferred
• Current DEA registration (or ability to obtain) and up-to-date BLS/ACLS certifications
• Clinical experience in ambulatory or primary care settings; correctional experience is a plus
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
• Passionate about delivering high-quality, patient-focused care in a correctional health environment

Education

• Medical degree (MD or DO)
• Board certification or eligibility in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in evaluation and management of common primary care conditions
• Skilled in chronic disease management (diabetes, hypertension, COPD, etc.)
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and accurate clinical documentation
• Ability to work within institutional policies and security protocols
• Good triage skills and sound clinical judgment for timely decision-making
• Cultural sensitivity and experience working with diverse patient populations
