Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and process tissue specimens accurately and efficiently to ensure excellent slide quality
• Perform embedding, microtomy, and routine staining with attention to detail and patient safety
• Conduct quality control checks and document results to maintain lab standards
• Operate and maintain histology equipment, troubleshooting and reporting issues promptly
• Collaborate with pathologists and lab staff to prioritize cases and meet turnaround expectations
• Maintain clean, organized work areas and follow infection control and safety protocols
• Complete accurate patient and lab documentation in a timely manner
• Participate in continuing education and competency assessments to keep skills sharp

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Histotechnology program or equivalent on-the-job training
• ASCP (HT) or equivalent certification preferred; willingness to pursue certification supported
• Previous histotech experience in a clinical or hospital lab is a plus
• Familiarity with histology techniques including embedding, microtomy, and staining
• Strong attention to detail, good manual dexterity, and ability to work independently overnight
• Ability to follow laboratory policies, safety procedures, and document work accurately

Education

• Associate degree in Histotechnology or related laboratory science, or equivalent training

Knowledge & Skills

• Hands-on skills in tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and slide staining
• Knowledge of laboratory quality control and safety practices
• Comfort with basic lab instrumentation and troubleshooting
• Good time management to meet case priorities and turnaround times
• Effective communication and teamwork with pathologists and lab colleagues
• Basic computer literacy for laboratory documentation and tracking systems
