Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide age-specific preventive and curative periodontal and dental hygiene care for patients across the lifespan
• Perform periodontal therapy, coronal polishing, and topical fluoride application
• Measure and chart periodontal pockets and perform dental radiography
• Record vitals such as pulse, blood pressure, and temperature as part of patient assessments
• Deliver patient education on oral hygiene, home care, and nutrition to prevent disease
• Manage patient scheduling and coordinate care flow for efficient clinic operations
• Lead and support community prevention activities including sealant clinics, Head Start clinics, and health fairs
• Maintain hygienist supplies and ensure instrument sterilization and infection control standards

Qualifications

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene program required
• Bachelor's degree preferred
• Pass the National Board Examination for Dental Hygienists
• Active Dental Hygiene license in Alaska or another U.S. state required; Alaska license preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association required within 45 days of start
• Clinical Competency Assessment (SEARHC) required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
• High Risk Competency (SEARHC) required within 3 months of hire and annually
• High school diploma or GED

Education

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proper infection control techniques and instrument sterilization
• Understanding of dental and periodontal disease and appropriate treatment therapies
• Skilled clinical hygiene techniques including periodontal probing and radiography
• Strong oral and written communication skills for patient education
• Excellent manual dexterity and sustained ability to work seated over patients
• Accurate clinical judgment and attention to detail
