Roles & Responsibilities

• Scrub for cardiovascular OR procedures across neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric populations with precision and focus
• Prepare and maintain sterile field and instruments, ensuring safety and efficiency in every case
• Anticipate surgeon needs and provide necessary instruments and supplies in a timely, calm manner
• Function independently within established CVOR protocols while collaborating closely with RNs and the surgical team
• Perform unit tasks assigned by the RN competently and reliably to keep the OR running smoothly
• Protect patient confidentiality and demonstrate sound judgment, tact, and diplomacy in high-stakes situations
• Document perioperative care accurately and use computer/keyboarding skills to maintain records

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program (required for hires post-2009)
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Surgical Technologist, with required CVOR specialty experience
• BCLS certification required
• National certification by an approved body preferred (NBSTSA - CST or NCCT - TS-C)
• Willingness to participate in on-call rotation

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program (required for hires post-2009)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong scrub skills with CVOR focus
• Ability to function independently within established protocols
• Competence performing unit tasks assigned by RNs
• Experience across age groups: neonate through geriatric
• Proficient computer and keyboarding skills
• Sound judgment, tact, diplomacy, and strict patient confidentiality
