Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality post-operative orthopedic nursing care to adult patients
• Perform dressing changes and suture/staple removal with attention to infection control
• Manage Foley catheters and nasogastric (NG) tubes safely and competently
• Maintain and remove Wound VAC systems as indicated
• Accurately document assessments, interventions and care plans in Cerner EMR
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiology, physical therapy and the multidisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes
• Educate patients and families on mobility, wound care and discharge instructions
• Prioritize patient safety, escalate concerns, and support the unit during peak activity

Qualifications

• Current NC Registered Nurse license (required)
• BLS certification (required)
• Minimum 2 years of relevant nursing experience (experience in hospital/orthopedics preferred)
• Comfortable working night shifts and covering every other weekend
• Strong clinical assessment skills and experience with post-op orthopedic care
• Ability to use Cerner EMR for documentation and care coordination

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency with Cerner electronic medical record
• Wound care expertise, including Wound VAC maintenance and removal
• Experience managing Foley catheters and NG tubes
• Familiarity with common orthopedic equipment and mobility aids
• Ability to manage typical med-surg/ortho patient ratios and acuity
• Excellent communication, teamwork and time-management skills
• Patient education and discharge planning abilities
