Includes OR call and ICU/CVICU call; schedule is rotating and may include day and night coverage.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Coordinate patient care across the cardiothoracic and vascular teams to ensure seamless transitions and excellent outcomes
• Perform daily rounding on adult and geriatric patients in the OR, ICU/CVICU and surgical units
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests and use results to guide timely clinical decisions
• Write prescriptions and manage medication regimens under supervision of cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons
• Participate in OR call and ICU/CVICU call rotations, supporting surgeons and the critical care team
• Perform vein harvesting procedures as part of vascular bypass cases when applicable
• Assist with procedures and interventions as appropriate; surgical assistance not required but welcomed

Qualifications

• Experienced Physician Assistant with background in cardiothoracic, vascular surgery or critical care (NO new grads)
• Comfortable caring for adult and geriatric surgical populations
• Experience working in OR, ICU/CVICU settings and responding to OR/ICU call
• Familiarity with Epic EMR (site uses Epic)
• Surgical NP candidates will be considered — be sure to highlight relevant procedural experience
• Willingness to complete credentialing process (site notes 60–90 days; temporary privileges possible in ~45 days)

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient care and coordination of care in surgical and critical care environments
• Daily rounding and multidisciplinary communication
• Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests relevant to cardiothoracic and vascular patients
• Prescribing and medication management
• Experience with Epic electronic medical record
• Hands-on skills such as vein harvesting and familiarity with OR workflows
• Comfort in high-acuity settings (CVICU/ICU) and responding to surgical calls
