Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide age-appropriate preventive and therapeutic dental hygiene care for patients from infants through geriatrics
• Perform periodontal therapy, coronal polishing, topical fluoride application, and dental radiography
• Measure and record periodontal pockets and patient vital signs (pulse, blood pressure, temperature)
• Manage and coordinate patient scheduling to keep the clinic running smoothly
• Lead and support community prevention events such as health fairs, sealant clinics, and Head Start clinics
• Maintain and sterilize hygienist instruments and supplies to ensure patient safety
• Deliver clear patient education on oral hygiene, home care, and nutrition to prevent oral disease

Qualifications

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program (required)
• Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
• Pass the National Board Examination for Dental Hygienists
• Active Dental Hygiene license in Alaska or another U.S. state (Alaska license preferred)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 45 days of start
• Clinical Competency Assessment required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
• High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
• High school diploma or GED

Education

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program (required)
• Bachelor's degree preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong clinical hygiene techniques and infection control practices
• Proficiency with periodontal probing, coronal polishing, topical fluoride, and dental X-rays
• Accurate clinical judgment and excellent manual dexterity
• Clear oral and written patient communication and education skills
• Ability to sit and work over patients for extended periods
• Experience with patient scheduling and supply/instrument maintenance
• Comfort working in community outreach settings (sealant clinics, Head Start, health fairs)
