Shift Type: Rotating 8-hour shifts; primarily day shifts with rotation to evenings, weekends and holidays as required
Hours per Week: 40
Candidate Pay Rate: $38 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Collect blood specimens using venipuncture, arterial and capillary techniques accurately and compassionately
- Verify patient identity every time to ensure specimen integrity and accurate test results
- Perform bedside glucose testing and follow quality control procedures before releasing results
- Prepare and label specimens for processing and reference laboratory shipment, maintaining meticulous documentation
- Instruct and assist patients with urine, sputum, and other specimen collections when needed
- Maintain organized, clean collection areas and ensure supplies and reagents are inventoried and rotated
- Communicate promptly and courteously with clinical staff, patients, and supervisors about specimen needs or delays
- Support quality assurance, infection control, and compliance with CAP, JCAHO, CLIA and state regulations
Qualifications
- Certified Phlebotomist (ASCP, AMT, CLSI or equivalent)
- Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification
- Graduate of a certified phlebotomy program or equivalent training
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Preferred: prior hospital laboratory or clinical phlebotomy experience
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients and medical staff and make sound judgments
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends and holidays as required
Education
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Graduate of a certified Phlebotomy program or equivalent
Knowledge & Skills
- Venipuncture, arterial and capillary puncture techniques
- Specimen collection, labeling, handling and transport best practices
- Bedside glucose testing and associated quality control
- Infection control procedures and strict adherence to safety protocols
- Patient identification verification and effective patient communication
- Familiarity with chain of custody collections and urine/pediatric specimen collection
- Workflow and process improvement mindset to enhance lab efficiency
