Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert pre-procedure and post-procedure nursing care for pediatric cardiac patients in the cath and EP labs
• Administer and monitor procedural sedation and emergency medications safely and effectively
• Establish and manage IV access, PICC and central lines, and manage blood product administration
• Perform sheath removal and monitor vascular access sites using topical hemostasis and vascular closure systems
• Interpret 12-lead EKGs and recognize/manage dysrhythmias in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
• Support diagnostic and interventional catheterization and electrophysiology procedures, including ASD closures and device-related care
• Maintain meticulous infection prevention and isolation precaution practices, including appropriate PPE use
• Document care accurately in Epic and communicate clearly with families and colleagues

Qualifications

• Active California RN license (required)
• AHA BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (required)
• Minimum ~2 years pediatric/congenital heart and pediatric cath/EP lab experience (explicitly required)
• Experience with Epic charting (required)
• Ability to float to other UCSF facilities and participate in block/on-call rotations
• COVID-19 vaccine plus booster required (medical/religious exemptions only)
• PICU/PACU experience and prior charge experience preferred

Education

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN/BSN) and active RN license required; BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric congenital heart disease and pediatric cardiac care
• Pediatric diagnostic, interventional cath and electrophysiology lab procedures
• Procedural sedation administration and monitoring
• Activated Clotting Time (ACT) and management of anticoagulation
• Sheath removal, topical hemostasis (D-Stat, Chito-Seal, Syvek Patch) and vascular closure systems (Perclose, StarClose)
• IV therapy, PICC and central line care, implanted port maintenance
• 12-lead EKG interpretation and dysrhythmia management
• Familiarity with pacemaker/defibrillator lead extraction/removal and device procedures
• Infection prevention, isolation precautions and PPE best practices
• Strong teamwork, communication and Epic documentation skills
