Registered Nurse - Palliative Care
Location: Columbus, OH

Contract Type: Travel Contract
Shift Type: Night, 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM (scheduling reviewed every 4 weeks). If you accept a 12D/N rotating contract, you may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination depending on unit needs.
Hours per Week: 36
Candidate Pay Rate: $60 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate palliative nursing care focused on symptom assessment and management to improve patient quality of life
- Administer medications safely, including opioid dosing, breakthrough dosing, and adjuvant therapies
- Manage IVs, central lines, and PCA pumps; perform phlebotomy as needed
- Assess and treat pain using pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions
- Document care accurately and timely in Epic to ensure continuity and quality of care
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members (PT, RT, pharmacy, social services, chaplaincy) to address holistic patient and family needs
- Support patients and families with goal setting, advanced directives conversations, and end-of-life care planning
- Participate in unit orientation and float to equivalent acuity units when scheduled
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years RN experience required
- BLS certification required
- Epic charting experience required
- ACLS preferred
- Previous travel experience preferred but not required
- Comfort and skill with medication administration, pain management, PCA pumps, and IV/central line care
- Ability to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity
- Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required per facility guideline
Knowledge & Skills
- Symptom assessment and management for serious illness (pain, nausea/vomiting, fatigue, failure to thrive)
- Pain assessment, equianalgesic dosing, medication tolerance, and breakthrough dosing
- Phlebotomy and peripheral/central IV care, starting and maintaining IVs
- Use of pain scales (verbal and nonverbal) and PCA pump management
- End-of-life care skills including bereavement planning, perideath care, and postmortem care
- Cultural awareness and identifying spiritual needs to support patient-centered care
- Understanding of advanced directives and ethical/legal issues around withholding/withdrawing treatment
- Strong Epic documentation and interdisciplinary communication skills
