Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, evidence-based oncology and med-surgical nursing care to patients on the K9A Oncology/Women’s Surgical unit
• Perform thorough assessments, monitor patient status, and intervene appropriately to ensure safe outcomes
• Administer treatments and medications safely, including oncology-specific therapies when qualified
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team — physicians, CNAs, HUCs and ancillary staff — to develop and follow individualized care plans
• Document care accurately and efficiently in Cerner to maintain clear, up-to-date patient records
• Support patients and families with education, emotional support, and discharge planning
• Assist with unit procedures as needed (occasional pelvic exams, echoes, thoracentesis) following unit policies

Qualifications

• Active RN license (must be licensed to practice in North Carolina or eligible to obtain NC licensure)
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (oncology or med-surgical experience strongly preferred)
• BLS certification required
• Chemo certification preferred (candidates with chemo certification will be prioritized)
• Comfortable using Cerner EMR
• Experience or comfort assisting with pelvic exams, echoes, and thoracentesis is a plus
• Team-player attitude and willingness to learn in a fast-paced unit

Education

• Active RN license (required)
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Solid knowledge of oncology nursing principles and med-surgical care
• Proficiency with Cerner electronic medical record system
• Strong assessment and clinical judgment skills
• Ability to manage patient ratios typically around 1:4 to 1:5
• Good communication, teamwork, and documentation skills
• Familiarity with standard unit equipment and hospital policies
