Roles & Responsibilities

• Scrub and provide perioperative nursing care for cardiovascular procedures including CABG and valve surgeries
• Interpret EKG strips promptly and communicate findings to the surgical and anesthesia teams
• Maintain sterile field and strong surgical aseptic technique throughout procedures
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, CSTs, RT and pharmacy to deliver safe, efficient care
• Provide reliable overnight call coverage as scheduled and support extended cases when needed
• Document accurately in Cerner EMR and complete required orientation/preceptor steps
• Float to other OR assignments as needed and support core staff during holidays and high-volume periods
• Precept and orient new staff when assigned to foster team competency and continuity

Qualifications

• Active RN license required for submission
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• Minimum 2 years of CVOR experience required; must be confident and competent to scrub
• Ability to read and interpret EKG strips
• Familiarity with Cerner charting system
• Willingness to take overnight call and cover required weekend shifts
• Two supervisory references required at time of submittal (one within 12 months and one within 3 years)
• Floor orientation 1-2 days in OR with a preceptor; first-time travelers welcome

Education

• Active RN license required
• BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong perioperative CVOR skills for cardiac surgery cases (CABG, valve procedures)
• Scrubbing expertise and instrument knowledge in cardiovascular OR
• EKG interpretation and telemetry familiarity
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-volume operating room environment
• Basic ventilator familiarity a plus though not required
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including RT and pharmacy
• Proficiency with Cerner electronic medical record documentation
