Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert post–open heart recovery care for adult cardiac patients directly from the OR
• Manage advanced cardiac support including ECMO, IABP and VADs (LVAD/RVAD)
• Care for ventilated patients and manage ventilators, HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP as needed
• Monitor and interpret dysrhythmias and titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips safely
• Perform arterial line and central line management and blood product administration
• Support transcatheter procedures (TAVR) and manage Pulmonary Artery/Swan-Ganz monitoring
• Respond to cardiac emergencies and participate in rapid response interventions
• Document accurately in EPIC, communicate using SBAR, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of critical care (CC) experience — CVICU or open heart experience required
• Travel experience required — no first-time travelers
• Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Must be available for hospital orientation (week one) and unit-specific orientation
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions only)

Knowledge & Skills

• Ventilator management and interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
• ECMO management and familiarity with CRRT/Impella when applicable
• Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP) operation and VAD (LVAD/RVAD) care
• Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) post-op care
• Arterial line and central line care, blood product administration
• Continuous IV sedation and titration of cardiac/vasoactive drips
• Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias and advanced cardiac monitoring
• Isolation precautions/PPE, IV therapy, accessing/managing ports, chest tube assistance
• Unit systems experience: EPIC, PYXIS, SBAR-style communication
