Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients of all ages in the emergency/acute setting.
• Make independent clinical decisions during your shift and coordinate care with providers and departments.
• Assess patients, administer medications, and implement treatment plans safely and accurately.
• Supervise and delegate tasks to CNAs and techs, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record and complete required reports.
• Respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations, initiating appropriate interventions.
• Participate in department policy development, quality improvement, and staff training activities.

Qualifications

• Active, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license (Alaska) — agency staff must have an active AK license; direct hire must have applied for AK license before start date
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS required (can be obtained within 6 months of hire and maintained thereafter)
• TNCC preferred (required for ED nurses)
• Clinical Competency and High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire (ongoing recert cycles)
• Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs and perform typical clinical duties for emergency nursing
• Experience in acute care, emergency department, or long-term care preferred but not required

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN), Associate degree in Nursing (ADN), or Diploma in Nursing (acceptable)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong patient assessment and emergency response skills
• Medication administration and documentation expertise
• Infection control practices and care planning know-how
• Comfort working independently and exercising sound clinical judgment
• Excellent communication and teamwork; ability to work with diverse patients and families
• Familiarity with EMR documentation and supervising clinical support staff
