Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and set up surgical instruments, sterile supplies, and the operating room for cases
• Sterilize, organize, and maintain instrument trays and sterile fields
• Assist the surgical team by passing instruments and anticipating needs during procedures
• Perform counts of sponges, needles, and instruments to ensure patient safety
• Verify functionality of surgical equipment and report any issues promptly
• Maintain meticulous documentation and complete required competency testing
• Follow infection control protocols and ensure adherence to facility policies
• Collaborate with nurses, surgeons, and techs to create a smooth OR workflow

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required
• BLS certification required
• Ability to pass Trinity Specialty Specific Competency Testing and Trinity Skills Checklist
• Successful completion of license/certificate verification
• Must be able to meet pre-employment health requirements (fit test, drug screen, immunizations, TB testing, etc.)
• Strong teamwork, communication, and attention to detail in a fast-paced OR environment

Knowledge & Skills

• Thorough knowledge of sterile technique and surgical instrumentation
• Familiarity with common operating room procedures and case flow
• Strong infection control and patient safety practices
• Ability to perform equipment checks and basic troubleshooting
• Effective verbal communication with surgeons and perioperative team members
• Comfort documenting cases and maintaining accurate counts
• Ability to follow facility policies and complete required competencies
• Calm, organized approach to high-pressure situations
