Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide direct occupational therapy services to patients in the rehabilitation setting, helping them regain independence
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient goals and clinical assessments
• Collaborate with therapists, nurses, and other care team members to coordinate patient-centered care
• Document patient progress, treatment notes, and discharge planning in a timely and accurate manner
• Educate patients and families on strategies, home programs, and adaptive equipment to support recovery
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives

Qualifications

• Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) credential — required
• Current licensure or registration to practice as an OTA in New Mexico (or ability to obtain) — required
• Minimum experience in an inpatient or outpatient rehab setting preferred
• Basic life support (BLS/CPR) certification — preferred or willing to obtain
• Strong communication skills and ability to work well within an interdisciplinary team

Education

• Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program or equivalent

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in therapeutic activity planning and adaptive equipment recommendations
• Comfortable with patient assessments, treatment documentation, and progress tracking
• Knowledge of common rehab diagnoses and interventions in a post-acute setting
• Ability to teach patients and families practical strategies for daily living and safety
• Good time management, organization, and clinical reasoning skills
