Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to adults and geriatric patients on a 35-bed PCU/stepdown unit
• Titrate drips and manage common titratable medications such as Cardizem, beta blockers and seizure medications
• Monitor and respond to continuous EEG monitoring and manage seizure medication plans
• Collaborate with the charge nurse and interdisciplinary team to maintain safe patient ratios and smooth shifts
• Document thoroughly and accurately in EPIC to support continuity of care
• Assess patients, prioritize critical needs, and intervene promptly using strong clinical judgment
• Assist with patient and family education, discharge planning and transitions of care
• Support unit efficiency by helping colleagues, mentoring newer staff and embracing a positive attitude

Qualifications

• Active RN license in the state of Nebraska (or compact privileges when applicable)
• Minimum 2 years of acute care or PCU/stepdown nursing experience
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required, NIHSS certification required
• Demonstrated experience with titration of drips and managing cardiac, nephrology and stroke patients
• Comfortable with continuous EEG monitoring and seizure medication management
• Driver's license required at time of submittal to verify radius eligibility
• Must not be currently full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-associated facility (including CHI or Dignity)
• Willingness to pass an orientation open-book skills exam with 90% score and comply with facility policies (for example, no artificial nails in patient care areas)

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) accepted; BSN not required

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong proficiency with EPIC charting and electronic documentation
• Critical thinking and rapid decision-making in a fast-paced stepdown environment
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills for interdisciplinary collaboration
• Comfort with cardiac, nephrology and stroke patient populations
• Skill in titrating drips and managing set-rate infusions safely
• Ability to prioritize multiple patients and tasks while maintaining patient safety
