Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric GI oncology patients
• Perform and document patient assessments, vital signs, pain scores and 12-lead EKGs when needed
• Start IVs, perform venipuncture and collect, label and process specimens accurately
• Administer medications and immunizations safely, including intramuscular and subcutaneous routes
• Triage telephone calls, handle pharmacy refill requests and coordinate authorization forms
• Document all care and communications in EPIC with attention to detail and timeliness
• Assist with procedures and post-procedure dressing changes and suture removals as required
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, glucose monitoring and follow-up

Qualifications

• Current RN licensure (state of Ohio) required
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience; outpatient or oncology experience strongly preferred
• BLS certification required
• EPIC documentation experience required
• Comfortable with IV starts, venipuncture/phlebotomy and medication administration
• Experience with telephone triage, chart preparation and authorization/pharmacy communications
• ONS and/or OCN certifications are a plus
• Facility guidelines: COVID-19 vaccine not required; flu vaccine required with medical exemptions only

Knowledge & Skills

• GI oncology care and clinic workflows
• EPIC electronic medical record proficiency
• IV insertion, venipuncture and specimen collection techniques
• Blood glucose monitoring and use of glucometer
• Medication administration and immunization processes
• Telephone triage and patient communication
• Basic EKG/ECG acquisition (12-lead), vital signs and pulse oximetry
• CPR/Cardiac arrest response and BLS
• Wound care basics including dressing changes and suture removal
• Familiarity with authorization forms, imaging results and pharmacy refill coordination
