Roles & Responsibilities

Deliver comprehensive progressive care nursing to hemodynamically stable and predictably unstable medical/surgical patients
Assess patients continuously and intervene promptly using advanced monitoring and clinical judgment
Operate and troubleshoot advanced medical equipment including ventilators, arterial lines, and multiple IV pumps
Manage complex patient needs such as central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, and continuous bladder irrigation
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care from admission through discharge, including discharge planning
Provide clinical leadership on the unit, assist with precepting new staff, and guide support personnel (LPNs, CNAs)
Interpret cardiac telemetry and EKGs to support timely interventions and patient safety
Document patient care accurately and communicate changes to providers and charge nurses

Qualifications

Current Montana RN licensure (required)
BLS and ACLS required; PALS required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire
Recent experience in Progressive Care (PCU) or Critical Care and practice in an advanced medical/surgical unit
Comfort and experience with ventilator support, arterial lines, central lines, chest tubes, and multiple IV pumps
Demonstrated ability to act as a clinical leader and preceptor
EPNC and TNCC certifications preferred
Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills

Education

Degree from a Nursing Program

Knowledge & Skills

Progressive Care and Medical-Surgical nursing principles
Patient assessment and rapid recognition of deterioration
Cardiac telemetry monitoring and EKG interpretation
Ventilator support (noninvasive and invasive) and advanced respiratory care
Central line, arterial line, chest tube, and nasogastric tube management
IV management and operation of multiple IV pumps
Discharge planning and care coordination
Use of advanced medical equipment and sterile techniques
