Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert palliative nursing care focused on symptom management and comfort for patients with serious illness
• Assess and manage pain and distressing symptoms using pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic approaches
• Administer medications safely, including PCA management and opioid equianalgesic dosing when appropriate
• Manage peripheral IVs, central lines, and perform phlebotomy as needed
• Document care accurately and promptly in Epic to ensure continuity and quality
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including pharmacy, social services, PT, RT, and chaplaincy to deliver holistic care
• Support patients and families through advanced directives, bereavement planning, and end-of-life care with empathy and professionalism
• Participate in unit float coverage and adapt to varied patient populations while maintaining high standards of care

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) - current and active (Registered Nurse role required)
• Minimum 2 years RN experience required
• BLS certification required
• Epic charting experience required
• ACLS preferred
• Previous travel experience preferred
• Willingness to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity
• Comfort working night shifts and flexible scheduling; able to work a 3x12 night schedule

Knowledge & Skills

• Palliative care and end-of-life symptom management
• Pain assessment and opioid management including breakthrough dosing and equianalgesic calculations
• Medication administration and proper disposal practices
• PCA pump management and pharmacologic/non-pharmacologic pain interventions
• IV/central line care, starting and maintaining peripheral IVs, and phlebotomy skills
• Pressure ulcer staging and wound awareness
• Cultural awareness, spiritual needs identification, and bereavement support
• Strong Epic documentation skills and interdisciplinary communication
