Roles & Responsibilities

Provide direct, high-quality patient care to medical/surgical and critically ill patients from admission through discharge
Operate and monitor advanced medical equipment including ventilators and multiple IV pumps to ensure safe, effective therapy
Manage invasive lines such as central lines and arterial lines, and care for patients with chest tubes
Assess patient condition, implement established policies and procedures, and escalate changes to providers as needed
Serve as a clinical leader on the unit: give direction to RNs, LPNs, CNAs and support staff and assist with staffing workflows
Precept and mentor staff to build team skills and ensure consistent, evidence-based patient care
Coordinate discharge planning and communicate clearly with multidisciplinary teams to promote safe transitions of care

Qualifications

Current State of Montana RN licensure required
BLS and ACLS certifications required
PALS, EPNC, TNCC certifications preferred
Practice experience in an advanced medical/surgical unit plus recent critical care nursing experience required
Demonstrated ability to function with minimal supervision and to provide clinical leadership and precepting

Education

Degree from an accredited Nursing program

Knowledge & Skills

Advanced nursing principles and procedures
Ventilation support and ventilator management
Invasive line management (central lines, A-lines) and chest tube care
Use and troubleshooting of multiple IV pumps
Strong assessment skills and ability to implement policies and procedures
Clinical leadership, precepting, and effective multidisciplinary communication
Comfort with basic office equipment and electronic documentation systems
